Metal Source
Since 1999

Metal Source was formed in 1999 by Thomas Gebhart, a veteran of the scrap metal industry. Following the passing of Thomas in 2002, his son Benjamin Gebhart took over the company. Metal Source began as a zinc dross milling operation and in 2003 changed its focus and entered the aluminum recycling industry.

Our core purpose is to build a bigger, better company with a platform to provide structure, consistency, and support throughout our divisions.

1999

Metal Source was formed by Thomas Gebhart (owner’s father), a veteran of the scrap metal industry.

2002

Son Ben Gebhart takes over Metal Source after Thomas Gebhart falls ill. Primarily being a zinc dross milling operation, Ben decided to focus on aluminum recycling instead.

2007

Milestone expansion- Metal Source moves from Canal St. To current location on Wabash St. Where a 20,000 production facility was built.

2011

40,000 sq. Ft added to production facility along with more processing equipment, another furnace, and some shredding capabilities.

2018

Wabash Steel Supply was established. As business grew, Gebhart saw the need to provide supporting services and logistics.

Metal Source purchases Secondary Metal gaining 2nd Wabash facility.

Acquired Peru Scrap Yard making it Metal Source’s 3rd location.

2019

Wabash Trucking was established. Need for logistics. Practicing vertical integration.

Gebhart Holdings, Inc was established. Allows all businesses owned to be controlled centrally as well as helps manage and oversee certain aspects regarding quality, environmental health, safety, finance, HR, marketing, operations, and IT. Businesses include Metal Source, Wabash Steel Supply, Wabash Trucking, Wabash Motor Company, DRG Logistics, Market Street Grill, and Splash and dash Car Wash.

2021

Gebhart purchases Market Street Grill in Wabash. The strategy with this purchase is partially community-minded by helping give back and keep the long-established downtown eatery running, and partially to use as an employee benefit. Employees get a deep discount for lunch and dinner.

Gebhart purchases the Splash and Dash Carwash in Wabash. The strategy for this purchase is the same as Market Street Grill. The carwash was deteriorating and in horrible condition. There was an opportunity to remodel it and fix it up for the community. It is also an employee benefit as employees get free carwashes each week.

2022

The third plant for Metal Source was established in Marion, IN.

Metal Source purchases Huntington Aluminum, creating its fourth plant.

Metal Source purchases Decatur Salvage, creating its third scrap yard.

Purchased The Franklin Mobile Bar. The mobile bar allows us to increase and enhance our offisite catering offerings at Market Street Grill.

2023

Metal Source acquires the assets of Bedford Recycling, with locations in Bedord, IN and Mitchell, IN making its fourth and fifth scrap yard locations.
